TapInto Barnegat/Waretown: Developer Begins Clearance for Barnegat Rt. 9 Mixed Use Project

BARNEGAT, NJ – Preliminary steps are already underway for the mixed-use project located at 59 South Main Street (Route 9). Edgewood Properties, the developer says that the Lofts at Barnegat will offer a “new level of style and luxury to the Ocean County apartment market.”

Construction is slated to start this spring or summer and should be completed within two years. The project includes 180 residential rental units that are not age restricted. The developer was not required to assign affordable housing as part of its plan.

According to Ronald Aulenbach, Director of Engineering, Planning & Development for Edgewood Properties, one-bedroom apartments will be approximately 1,000 square feet; two bedrooms will be 1,200 square feet. The developer has not yet determined rental rates.

Tenants will have access to a clubhouse with amenities, as well as an outdoor pool. Additionally, the project rendering shows where retail and self-storage space will be located onsite. Residential space is divided between a three-story apartment building and townhouse units.

The Barnegat Planning Board began major site and conditional use approvals for the mixed-use project in 2015. The most recent application was approved in August of 2019.

Access to the site will come from two sets of driveways on Route 9, as well as a two-way driveway from Old Main Shore Road. Parking facilities are also part of the site plans.
